Get the action habit

Get things done and get results. Nothing is achieved by thinking about things alone. Everything we have in this world came from an idea in someone's mind that was acted upon.

Successful people are active, unsuccessful people are passive. The action orientated person plans a holiday and then takes, the inactive person may also plan the holiday but postpones it until next year. The active person decides to buy a car, reviews all of his options and makes the purchase, the inactive person will also review the options, but pulls out of the sale.

The difference between the active orientated person and the passive person also comes through in their behaviour. The active person, who gets things done, gains in confidence, is self-reliant, feels more secure and often has a bigger income, whereas the inactive person has little confidence, low self-esteem and lives a life of mediocrity.

One of the main problems with the inactive person is that they often wait until everything is right before they start, which for most of the time is never. If I'd waiting until everything is right for this site, if everything had to be in place before I'd started I would have never got it off the ground, and it would have still been an idea in my mind.

Inactive people also consider the negatives of doing anything first, and in doing so think of all the reasons they are unable to start and consider the things that could go wrong, before they think of what could go right and how good it would feel on completion of a task.

One of the saddest phrases in the English language is "I might have been". How sad it would be to look back at your life and all you can see is what you might have been, and especially when all it probably took to remove the word might, is just a little action.

If you have an idea today, do something about it, have a go, get on your bike and start peddling, you'll never know how far it will take you unless you give it a try.

As we have seen when we have looked at fear, action cures fear, and it also gives you confidence for more action. Inaction creates fear and makes it easier for you to postpone things. Waiting to do something also makes you nervous and increases tension and makes failure a likely outcome, action banishes all these things.

An important rule of nature says before you can do anything you must do something else first. You can ride your bike, but have to get it out first. You can get a new job but you must find a vacancy first. To do anything you have to be able to get out of bed first, and you'll achieve nothing if you can't get out of a warm bed into a cool room.  Get the action habit.

Here are a few key points to help you become an action orientated person:
