Research tells us that only about 10% of people who have big goals and big dreams ever get near to them. Why is it that only 10 in 100 people fulfil their dreams, it does seem low, especially when the so called experts in the self-help industry tell us we can all achieve our aims if we put our minds to them?
If you are a life coach and are reading this you may not believe me and dismiss this out of hand, but have you considered that despite the explosion in self-help, why still only a few people actually make their dreams come true? Is it the fact that what you have been publishing is exactly what everyone else has been publishing, and you haven't stopped to analyse if it actually works.
The problem with setting big goals and imagining and seeing yourself, is that you tend to not try too hard and you expect to achieve your goals without putting the effort in. Studies have compared big thinking people with none goal setters and found there is little difference between the two when it comes to achievement.
Generally big thinkers do one or a combination of the following techniques that hamper progress towards their goals, rather than taking them closer.
Fantasize how good life will be when they have achieved their goals.
Think about the negatives if they fail to achieve their goals.
Motivate themselves by focussing on a role model they have seen on TV.
They rely solely on their own will power.
Do you recognise any of these techniques and do they sound familiar?
There are however a number of techniques you can utilize to improve your chances of being successful with your goals and dreams, which will put you in the top 10% of people.
If you do have big goals or dreams, you need to break them up, make them into smaller parts and work on the parts rather than tackle to whole goal all at once. You also need to make sure you tell as many as your friends and family as you can. In doing this you are committing yourself to your friends and putting a little more emphasis on your goals. You will have a much greater desire to make sure you actually achieve the goal by publically declaring it.
You must constantly remind yourself of the benefits that your goal will bring you, but that doesn't mean always imagining yourself as having achieved the goal, as mentioned early that is counter productive, but what will help is that you consider the benefits.
Don't forget to reward yourself as you go along, give yourself a treat for completing parts of your plan.
Here is a list of techniques you must do to enable you to be goal successful:
Produce a plan
Record the progress of your plan on a chart or in a journal
Tell as many people about your goals as possible
Give yourself a reward as you go along
Imagine the benefits you will get from completing your goal
Don't picture yourself has already achieving your goal but do these simple common sense steps and you will be one of the top 10% of people.
